BRITISH CITIZENS GETTING MARRIED IN ITALY
British citizens getting married in Italy must obtain a Nulla Osta from the British Consulate in Italy. To get the Nulla Osta British Nationals must do the following documents:
- Certificate of No impediment – You must give notice of marriage to a UK Superintending registrar in order to publish the banns. After 2/3 weeks the Registry Office releases a document called “Certificate of No Impediment”. (You must do 2 different certificates of No Impediment - one for the bride and one for the groom).
- Original Birth Certificate (namely Entry of Birth) – This is a special Birth certificate in long form showing both parents names.
- Photocopy of valid UK passport
- Divorce decree (if applicable) – A divorce decree is necessary if you have been previously married and are divorced.
Once you have obtained these documents you will send them to the Consular Office in Naples who will issue the Nulla Osta (certificate in Italian) to you. There is a consular fee for the production of a Nulla Osta and marriage documents. (We can do this for you). Once the Ok is given all you have to do is send the Nulla Osta to us.
The local authorities will need this certificate at least 1 month before the ceremony .
