LA LOCANDA DELLE DONNE MONACHE
La Locanda delle Donne Monache, originally a convent, was founded in 1735 by nuns of the Visitandine order of San Francesco of Sales. Built near the Mother Church it overlooks the heart of the old town. The evocative name of “Il Convento delle Donne Monache” (literally the Convent of the women nuns) comes from the nuns activities in the Convent that used to welcome and coach the young novices before taking vows.
Now the Locanda is the ideal hideaway for all seasons. The rooms and spaces, once dedicated to the meditation and to the prayer, now welcome the guests with a minimalist and essential taste.
The restaurant Il Sacello with raw stones walls overlooks the wide porch on the garden and swimming pool whose crystalline waters reflect the white bell tower of the Mother Church. It offers superb cuisine created from a mix of fish dishes with the traditional regional flavours. For a wedding dinner one can enjoy the intimate surroundings of the garden laden with bougainvillea, lemon trees and jasmine.
For the wedding night one can enjoy the impressive panoramic view of the suite facing over the rooftops of the old village of Maratea. Each with its own particular characteristics such as a spacious bathtub incorporated into mountain’s original rock for La Vicaria.
